I’m wondering why anyone would choose January to be the month to advocate walking a dog. I mean most people live in an area where January happens to be the coldest month of the year. Throw in some snow, ice and a reactive dog, and well, that may not be the greatest time for someone my age to be walking Misty Blue.
The weather, however, doesn’t take away the many benefits going for a walk has to offer for both you and your dog.
Walking will keep the both of you physically and mentally healthy. Just a 30 minute walk a day can lower blood pressure, is great for cardiovascular fitness, and helps make your muscles and bones stronger. It also helps with decreasing stress and other cognitive processes. The same goes for dogs.
Dogs LOVE to go for walks and once a walk routine is established, your dog won’t let you skip a day! They are now your training partner as well as your coach.
Finding a harness that Misty Blue couldn’t get out of became quite an adventure. Several were tried but only one harness, so far, that she hasn’t been able to escape from is the Didog Multi-Use Escape Proof Dog Harness For Escape Artist Dogs.

I found that using the app Woof Trax is an awesome way to keep track of your daily walks while earning donations for local animal shelters or rescues. You should check it out!
And please, when taking your dog for a walk, don’t forget the poop bags!
Do you have a walking routine with your dog?
