When my daughter was young (maybe middle school age) she “adopted” a baby elephant in an African rehab facility. Unfortunately, “her” elephant baby didn’t make it. I live near Wildlife Safari, a non-profit. I guess not a sanctuary though. It does research, education, and conservation/breeding of species. We also have a tiger sanctuary right nearby. They have tigers saved from canned hunts, “entertainment” industry, or even from drug busts. People are disgusting. They don’t talk about it much, since it hits nerves, but they accept old horses. Kind of makes me uncomfortable, but tigers eat a lot, and on a practical basis, old horses are just money pits. Kinder than sending them to auction.

That is pretty cool that your daughter “adopted” a baby elephant. I’ve always wanted to go on a Wildlife Safari. I saw on the news the other day that a woman was killed by an elephant on one. They said that elephants don’t usually act like this one did. They think something was wrong. I agree with you on being uncomfortable. Some things are just sad.
